Buy Your Domain

article header

A domain is your business’s home on the internet. Even if you are not ready to build a full website yet, buying your domain early can help protect your name and make your business feel more official.

Your domain should be easy to spell, easy to remember, and close to your business name. Simple is better than clever.

You do not need to buy every version of your domain. Start with the one you are most likely to use.
Choose your ideal domain

Write the domain you would want first.

Start with the simplest version of your business name. Example: if your business is “Basal House,” your ideal domain might be basalhouse.com.
Search for availability

Check if the domain is available to buy.

Use a domain provider to search for the name. If it is available and affordable, save it as your first choice.
Try simple alternatives

Make backup options if your first choice is taken.

Try adding words like studio, shop, co, app, creative, design, or your location. Keep the name easy to say and spell.
Avoid confusing spelling

Make sure people can type it correctly.

Avoid extra letters, unusual spelling, too many hyphens, or anything you would have to explain every time.
Check the yearly price

Look at the renewal cost, not just the first-year price.

Some domains are cheap for the first year and more expensive later. Check the yearly renewal price before buying.
Buy the domain

Purchase the domain you want to use.

Once you are sure, buy the domain from a trusted domain provider. Save your login information somewhere safe.
Save your domain details

Example text:

“I bought basalhouse.com and saved the login, renewal date, and provider in my business folder.”
