Explain What You Do

Before you worry about a logo, website, or business cards, you need to be able to explain your business clearly. This does not have to sound perfect. It just needs to help someone quickly understand what you offer.
A simple explanation makes everything easier. It helps you write your bio, talk about your business, create content, and explain your offer to potential customers.
Start with the basics: what you do, who it is for, and why it helps.
Write what your business does
Start with a plain sentence.
Write one sentence that explains what you sell or provide. Do not worry about making it sound clever yet. Example: “I make handmade candles for people who want their home to feel calm and cozy.”
Write who it is for
Name the kind of person your business helps.
Think about who would actually buy from you. Are they busy parents, new founders, local homeowners, brides, students, creatives, or small business owners? Keep it simple.
Write the problem you help with
Say what your customer needs help doing, feeling, fixing, or choosing.
Your business should help someone in some way. Write down the problem, need, or desire your business responds to. Example: “They want thoughtful gifts that feel personal.”
Write why it matters
Explain the benefit in everyday words.
Ask yourself: after someone buys from me, what feels easier, better, prettier, calmer, more organized, or more exciting?
Combine it into one sentence
Put the pieces together.
Use this format: “I help [who] with [what] so they can [benefit].” Edit it until it feels clear and natural.
Say it out loud
Test if it sounds like something you would actually say.
Read your sentence out loud. If it sounds too stiff, rewrite it in simpler words. You should be able to say it in a normal conversation.
Example text:
“I help new small business owners organize their ideas into simple next steps so they can actually start.”
